President Barack Obama has come full circle and renewed his campaign promise to allow gay men and women to serve openly in the military, but we still do not have the answer to the question WHEN?
"I will end 'don't ask-don't tell,'" President Obama said Saturday night at the Human Rights Campaign's annual dinner of which almost 3000 attended. He never set a timetable and he acknowledged that some may be growing impatient.
Lets take a closer look at his speech and I will offer my translation.
"I appreciate that many of you don't believe progress has come fast enough," Obama said. "Do not doubt the direction we are heading and the destination we will reach." (I want to thank everybody that voted for me based on this campaign promise and I want to assure you I will bring this up again as we move closer to the 2012 Presidential Campaign.)
Mr President, please put your money where your mouth is, our Brothers and Sisters are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan for a country that forces them to hide in the closet. The time has come for action!
Please don't get me wrong I feel we have the strongest ally we have ever had in this White House, but if this is to come to fruition we will have to keep this on President Obama's front page along with the economy and health care.
